Two Reflections on “Missions” as Tentmaking Missionaries in NZ

missions new zealand
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

We celebrated Missions in the month of May.

Appreciating the experiences in missions that were shared every Sunday of May, I also reflected as well.

Below are the missions thoughts that I pondered on:

The mission field of people who DON’T WANT TO KNOW God is growing and more workers are needed in this area

Yeah, while the traditional concept of doing mission work is to go and share about God in places where people don’t know God, the reality is, we need more workers in places where people reject God and don’t want to know Him.

And these places aren’t far and foreign, are they?

This is a very challenging mission area that needs to be considered by the church that is really serious about missions.

There should be consistency in doing missions

By this, I mean that if we are passionate about the lost, the least, and the lonely in other countries, then we must be consistently passionate for the same people in our home place.

I believe we cannot be an effective missionary church community if we are champions of the poor, slaves, and prostitutes in other countries but we are comfortably silent in our own country.

I’m sorry if I might sound harsh here but let’s try to remember that as Christians, we are called to live a consistent life, though hard it may seem.

Resolution

These are challenges that the church needs to tackle and not for the individual missionary to deal all alone.

As a church, as a missionary community, we are facing these challenges always.

I believe that these challenges are best met when we are working together as one body in Christ.
