Which Status of Christian Life Are You?

Meeting and ministering with migrant workers allows me to learn their aspirations and hardships, including their desire to give their families a better life in New Zealand or their home country.

Having experienced life’s difficult circumstances in the Philippines and as an NZ immigrant, I testify that life is not about working to earn money. I’ve also heard lots of testimonies that affirm my conviction.

I understand this could be a strange statement to someone who has gone abroad and whose only goal is to work, earn, and be rich materially.

Let me share the two statuses of Christian life that I observed.

Status No. 1 – “Faith in time of need only”

Too many have lived with this scheme of “faith in time of need only” and have grown to believe that the Christian life is just like this.

So, to many Christians, keeping in touch with Jesus Christ is more like dialling 111 during an emergency. They only call upon His name when they are in need.

Have you asked yourself, is there more to life than working 40 hours (even 60 to 70 hours) a week and then quench the tiredness and stress with a Friday night party or weekend getaway to relax and ready your body for the following week’s toil?

My friends, there is more to life than the weekly routine of work-enjoy-work-enjoy throughout your lifetime.

Status No. 2 – Steadfast connection with Jesus

Yes, you can work and enjoy life together by establishing and remaining steadfast in your connection with Jesus Christ.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing,” Jesus said in John 15:5.

To enjoy life, make your faith a moment-by-moment lifetime experience.

Yes, remaining in Jesus Christ means He is like our breathing moments. We must have the faith that without Him, we can’t be productive or achieve anything.

Don’t make Jesus Christ a once-in-a-while, during the worst times and end-of-life experience only.

There is so much joy and abundance waiting for us when we choose to remain in Jesus Christ always and forever.
